Deploy Rails 3 app to staging and production
Marc-Antoine Ross May 21st, 2011
I’ve spent a few days figuring out the proper configuration needed to deploy a rails app to both staging and production servers. It was time consuming as I don’t have a lot of experience with rails deployment. Like most rails developers I know, we mostly code and type heroku deploy. Some magic happens and we hit F5.
3 links that will help you deploy to staging and production
- Rails 3 Hosting with RVM, Passenger, Capistrano, Git and Apache
- HOWTO setup multistage deployment with Capistrano
- Multi-staging environment for Rails using Capistrano and mod_rails
The most important part of the 3 link for me was to change apache’s configuration for staging and add “RailsEnv Staging” in the virtualhost directive.
VoilĂ , you should now have cap staging deploy and cap production deploy ready to fire away!
